Note sulla sistematica - Sono riconosciute due sottospecie B. capito capito, del bacino del mar Caspio, e B. capito conocephalus, del bacino del mare d'Aral.

Distribuzione di Luciobarbus capito secondo IUCN

 

 

Mar Caspio, lago d'Aral e bacini fluviali afferenti. Karaman (1971) sostiene che la specie sia distribuita anche nella Peninsola Iberica ed in Nord Africa, fino al sud ovest dell'Asia, evidentemente si tratta di errori d'identificazione, perché l'autore include 8 sottospecie nella sua descrizione di Barbus capito. Ci sono ancora popolazioni di L. capito nel corso superiore del fiume Arax in Turchia.
